Dr. Tiffany Gallicano is an associate professor who teaches undergraduate and graduate public relations classes, such as Public Relations Strategy, Social Media Management and Public Relations Writing. She received her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Maryland and worked at the University of Oregon for nine years as an assistant professor and then as an associate professor, where she won the Jonathan Marshall Award for Innovative Teaching from the School of Journalism and Communication.
She has professional public relations experience in nonprofit organizations, political campaigns and public relations agencies. She is a past head of the PR Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. One of her favorite teaching quotes is, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited” by Plutarch.
In terms of her research, she has authored and co-authored 20 refereed journal articles in the areas of relationship management, social media, ethics and pedagogy. She has won six awards for her scholarship. Currently, she is co-leading the qualitative stage of a half-million, three-year grant from the Department of Defense with an interdisciplinary research team, which focuses on how messages spread on social media following shocking events.
