Professor Shares Health Advocacy Strategies

Dr. Ashli Stokes, Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, presented as part of a recent US-Moldova Sharing Session, organized by UNC Charlotte’s Department of Public Health Sciences.

During the session on Friday, Feb. 26, Dr. Stokes discussed effective advocacy strategies that lead to positive health changes. The presentation was provided to UNC Charlotte Public Health students and faculty/students at the School of Public Health Management in Moldova. As part of her overview of an advocacy framework, Dr. Stokes discussed key points in designing effective health messages and provided some examples of successful strategies drawn from her research. Her Moldovian co-presenter, Oxana Ruscineau of Societatea Moldovei impotriva Tuberculozei (SMIT), discussed how her team works to communicate effective public health messages about tuberculosis prevention and treatment from a community perspective.
